Affiliate marketing is one of the simplest methods to make some quick bucks online. In fact, I have been using affiliate marketing to generate some income as part of my passive portfolio.
There are many bloggers using affiliate marketing as one of their income sources. Many claims that they can earn enough to sustain their lifestyle solely through affiliate marketing.
I have my doubts about that but I can’t deny that affiliate marketing is indeed a good way for people to earn some extra cash.
It is not very difficult to start affiliate marketing. If you are able to invest time and effort, you should be able to make some quick bucks.

What is Affiliate Marketing?
In a nutshell, you drive sales and earn a commission. You help the vendors to sell their services or products and they give you a fraction of their earnings.
Well, it’s basically making sales except that you sell them online.
There are many affiliate programs in Singapore. In the recent years, more vendors in Singapore has started to
Different vendors might term it differently. For instance, Lazada calls theirs “Affiliate Partner Program” but Qoo10 calls theirs “Qoo10 Affiliate Rewards”. Some calls theirs referral programs. But really, all of them mean the same.
Why affiliate marketing?
The answer is simple.
You do not have to create your own products or services.
If you aspire to be an entrepreneur, I will suggest going for other business models. Ultimately, affiliate marketing will not be able to satisfy your objective unless you manage to create a product of your own from affiliate marketing.
But if you are looking for a quick buck, this is the simplest method I know to achieve that. You do not need to own a shop. All you need to do is to copy and paste your affiliate links to a group of potential buyers.
How to start affiliate marketing?
First, you need to sign up for these affiliate programs. Once they have approved your account, you can start to generate your affiliate links to promote and sell any products.
Once someone has clicked on your link and make a successful purchase, you will receive a commission.
Yup, that’s all you need to do to kick start your journey.
Now, the hardest part of affiliate marketing is to drive successful sales.
There are many affiliate programs on the market – Qoo10, Clickbank, InvolveAsia, Amazon, Lazada etc… If you are new, you should pick one (I suggest Qoo10) to gain some knowledge and experience before moving to other programs.
I will share some of the basic things about affiliate marketing you need to know in the next few sections using the Qoo10 affiliate program as an example.
How to Join the Qoo10 Affiliate Program
To be honest, I was having a really hard time trying to understand the difference between the curator program and the normal affiliate program.
It was really confusing as I read somewhere that the curator program is supposed to be the affiliate program. Well, it happens when the author is someone that has not really tried Qoo10 affiliate marketing and claimed that he is an expert. Meh.
A shopping curator is someone who gathers a gallery of products and shares many good deals with their Qoo10 fellows. It is a community of fellows but it is not an affiliate program.
All Qoo10 members are automatically included in Qoo10 Affiliate Program. You do not have to join the curator program to get a commission
How to Generate Affiliate Links?
In order to ensure that you receive your commission, you must make sure the transaction is made through your customised links.
You can generate affiliate links on the Qoo10 (Desktop version) as shown in the following two screen captures:
You can share your affiliate links somewhere and pray that someone clicks and makes a successful purchase through your link.
How much can I earn per sales?
For every successful transaction, you will earn 1~2% of the product price.
You will earn 1% if your sales are driven from Qoo10 website (e.g. Live Talk or Bazaar). Most of the time you should be able to get a 2% commission.
For every S$100, you will be able to yield $1 – $2 commission. If you want to earn enough to sustain a minimal lifestyle, say S$1,500/per month, you will need to sell S$75,000 worth of products.
Huh? How to survive like this?
Yes, it’s very difficult to sell S$75,000 worth of products just from the Qoo10 marketplace.
If you are really good and hit S$75,000 per month, you might as well do offline sales that will probably yield you a lot more than what affiliate marketing can give you.
To be honest, the Qoo10 affiliate program is not the best one on the market. You will probably need to venture into multiple affiliate programs in order to hit a comfortable revenue.
Like what I have mentioned at the beginning of the post, I have my reserves when someone says that affiliate marketing is their sole income.
I do believe that it’s manageable to get a few sales per week. If you are able to sell something more valuable (e.g. furniture), you might be able to get decent money per month to cover your minimal expenses (e.g. food & transport).
How can I generate more sales?
To generate more sales, you first need to have the right leads.
If you have been doing affiliate marketing but have little luck, chances are you have not used the right platform to
Now, you don’t have to work like an offline salesman. You don’t have to knock every single door you can find. But you do need to find the right platform to attract the right group of audience.
Just imagine yourself sharing a male product in a Facebook group that is made up of majority ladies… How does that help?
I have seen many aspired marketers sharing their links on their personal Instagram and Facebook.
Most of the time, nobody in your friend list cares about what you are trying to promote.
You might want to be more targeted in terms of your audience to ensure that you are investing your tremendous effort at the right people.
Yes, it is possible to earn money through affiliate marketing. It is easy to set up. Once you have invested enough time and effort, you will find that the subsequent steps are almost a breeze.
The hardest part of affiliate marketing is to find the right platform to generate sales.
In order to succeed, you will need to strategise your marketing plans and make sure you are targeting at the right audience. Once you get the hang of affiliate marketing, you can most likely expand your experience into other affiliate programs.
